About 4 years ago, my career took a sharp turn as I found myself wanting to give back to the younger generations. My purpose then became to utilize my knowledge of technologies and creative tools in a whole new way; to inspire new cohorts of pupils. I've chosen to work as a specialized education specialist locally here in Whistler (BC), which has been my primary residence for the past ten years.
I've had some great successes with these endeavours, which have allowed me in part; to inspire and support amazing projects, while also testing a wide-array of new technologies. My main goal has been to move the students away from being solely consumers of digital technologies to putting them in the driver's seat, equipped with new tools and ideas. I've found that whole process to be truly rewarding.
One of the achievements that I am particularly stoked about, was leading a group of Grade 4 and Grade 5 students, who've gone on to win a Provincial Government video contest for two years and counting. I am very proud to present to you "Escape Plan", which was our latest instalment and provincial win.
For this particular project, I've walked the students through all of the steps of creating a successful video; from pre-production to post-production, including the usage of technology (video capture and edit, music recording and animation). This particular video contest was centered around Fire Prevention Week and the theme of that particular year was "The Sounds of Fire Safety". The students responsible for this creation were featured in our local Newsmagazine "Pique Magazine" following their win:
